Introducing Little Harvest

Our three-week pop up in the Bakery

Join new executive chef Lilly Trewartha at Little Harvest - our winter restaurant pop up in the bakery at Harvest Newrybar in June.
While our restaurant is in renovation mode, we’re opening up our bakery dining room for three weeks of intimate dinners starting Thursday, June 9th.

Hyper seasonal produce, and connecting with the region’s best producers are the heart and soul of Harvest, and this very special dinner series Little Harvest will be an opportunity for Lilly and our team to bring together produce that’s native to the region, using ingredients and techniques that aren’t always possible in the restaurant. The menu will be coming together on the day of the event, as Lilly takes the week to work with local farmers and producers, creating a menu that is wholly centered around what’s best that day.

You’ll be treated to snacks on arrival, and then enjoy three courses – the main course a local protein grilled over fire, served family-style in the historic Harvest Bakery - the home of one of Australia’s oldest ovens, and a meeting place for the Newrybar village for over 120 years.

To dine at Little Harvest, make a reservation here on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from June 9 - June 25. The dinner menu is $95pp, with a menu of Australian wine and locally-focused cocktails available on the night.

Historic Bakery

The Harvest Bakery supplies the deli throughout the week with Harvest’s famous sourdough bread, baked in the 119 year old wood-fired oven. The Historic Bakery features unique and hand-crafted details including exposed rafters, recycled timbers and bricks.

The bakery and the wood-fired oven is used for all our our Deli meals.

Newrybar History

"A milk factory was built in 1893 on the site which is now the bakery. It was soon decided the weather was too hot to handle the products without refrigeration and the factory was closed down. A factory with more modern equipment was built at Binna Burra near the railway line which provided a convenient means of transporting products to Byron Bay and then to Sydney by boat."

"The bakery was built in 1900 with timber from the milk factory. The large ovens were transported by train to Bangalow and horse-drawn vehicle to Newrybar. Dan Davies was the first baker. He catered for many breakfasts. His wedding cakes were described as magnificent. Bread baked at Newrybar Bakehouse was considered the best available and the standard has been maintained by all who have operated the bakery. Bread was distributed by carriers to a large surrounding area."

This store front is what would eventually become Harvest Restaurant.

"Newrybar Central Store, Post Office and News agency was built on the corner of Brooklet Road and the Old Pacific Highway in the 1890's. The Post Office was operated from the side of the building where an awning was erected. Phil and Marg Jackson's home is the original shops residence.

In 1934, the store moved next to the bakery."
