Botanical Dyeing & Herbal Remedies Workshop - April 18th

April 18 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

Join us for a one day workshop with botanical dyer Victoria Larnach (@victoria.larnach) and permaculturist Janene Price (@lovetogrow_) who will be sharing their knowledge and methods of growing and collecting seasonal plants for colour and holistic living. You will learn the basics of botanical dyeing textiles with flowers, leaves, and compost from the Harvest garden and local area, indigo dyeing with the sugar vat, and making an organic infused healing balm and body rinse using seasonal plants and herbs from the garden. Victoria and Janene will guide you through each experience as you create your own botanically dyed textiles and hand-made herbal goods, while sharing sustainable options to implement into daily life to help you live more in alignment with nature. Materials are included and all food and drink will be provided by Harvest.

Details: Participants will be dyeing with all-natural Indigo pigment and bundle dyeing with seasonal plants from the Harvest garden, creating various surface design techniques onto silk scarves. They will also be making an organic healing salve and hair and body rinse with plants and herbs of choice, ready to use for applying topically for medicinal purposes.

The day will begin with a refreshment and canapés courtesy of Harvest, as Victoria shares about botanical dyeing methods and indigo dyeing with the sugar vat. Victoria will share her knowledge around sustainability with botanical dyeing and responsible options for coaxing colour onto fabric. Janene is our garden specialist at Harvest and will share her knowledge of the importance of growing your own fresh produce at home and how you can implement small steps in your own daily life to live more naturally, fruitfully and holistically.

We will then bundle dye our silk scarves using plants from the garden, exploring how various pigments from Mother Nature can be used to create colour. Moving into indigo dyeing, we will surface design our silk scarf using beautiful shibori techniques to create a truly unique piece. The final stage of our workshop will be infusing a healing salve and hair and body rinse with garden plants, sharing the holistic benefits and uses of specific herbs and plants. Participants will leave with 4 finished pieces and knowledge of various natural dye extractions and holistic plant uses.

Bring: Clothes you're happy to get messy in, and pen + paper if you'd like to take notes.

Please note: Due to class size and preparations, this workshop has a no refunds policy unless we can fill your spot.
